Taita tavetaGVNGovernor Granton Samboja has issued a directive to the Public Works Officers to refurbish the County garage in order to service county vehicles locally to cut down on cost. Speaking when inspecting Wundanyi garage, governor Samboja said that this will save on the resources used to service the vehicles in Mombasa County. "I am ready to forfeit my allowances to ensure our machinery work effectively. We intend to utilize minimal resources to refurbish the garage to ensure our County vehicles are not repaired in Mombasa anymore," said the Governor. 7.5 million shillings was set aside to renovate the place, procure spare parts and put the facility in good use. Governor Samboja further added that the garage will also create job opportunities for local mechanics thereby boosting their living standards. "We have young, energetic and qualified mechanics around who will repair and maintain County vehicles. We will need to take them through a fair vetting process to select one mechanic from every Sub County," added Governor Samboja. The Deputy Governor Majala Mlagui proposed that the abandoned offices be renovated to host mechanics who come from afar. The department has been given an ultimatum of sixty days to carry out the renovations to ensure it is in good shape to offer the vital service immediately.
